ITS NOT WORTH PAYING FOR. THIS ISNT EVEN UP TO LAXIUS POWER STANDARDS.. It's rare that I get to condemn an rpgmaker title for being uninteresting instead of bad, but this one fits the bill.Remnants of Isolation is a linear dungeon-crawl with a narrative about loneliness and, of course, isolation. The central conflict is over whether or not people can find meaning in each other and deal with these problems and, less importantly, whether folks can escape a giant magical dungeon full of well-rendered megabosses. The art in RoI is really quite good, provided you limit your definition of "art" to strictly the character portraits and the monsters you encounter in battle. The tileset seems to be largely stock, and looks about as interesting as a slug on pavement. Music is overall better, with what seems to be a custom soundtrack and decent stock effects. However, the Chrono Trigger victory noise is the soundbite that ends every battle, and I have no idea how that snuck into the finished copy. I'm realtively confident that it still belongs to Squeenix, although maybe it has somehow been opened up for indie developers to use.Combat is nearly engaging. Your party consists of two characters, each of which has spells and also abilities that amp spells used on the same turn. So, you'll have one character attack with an ability that makes the other character's spell hit all monsters, and then you'll cast fire for AoE damage. Battles still feel grindy, but there's at least a little more substance than mashing your strongest abilities to win.In summary, this isn't an abominous travesty like Data Hacker is. It's not a sleeper hit like City of Chains or an actual quality title either. It's just okay. Not bad for a first effort on steam, but not particularly worth your time either, even if it is priced accordingly for the content it delivers.. Considering the garbage RPG Maker games I've had to put up with in the past, I can really appreciate a game like Remnants of Isolation which doesn't oversell itself, doesn't try to stretch itself too far from base with gimmicks, doesn't overstay its welcome, and is priced to make you feel like you're getting a great deal. It's a short, sweet RPG that's solid enough on all fronts to keep interest for exactly the two hours (1 hour, 30 minutes if you want the achievement) that it takes to finish.. I thought overall, this game was pretty good. Pros: 1. The battle system rocks. How it works is that each character can use every element spell, but they have innate abilities that only that person can use to power up the other's spells. So one person casts their power up (like making it more powerful or hit all enemies) and then the other casts the damage spell. It makes the characters actually work together and need each other whereas in most RPGs, every character does their own thing. 2. The music fits with the theme of the game (It's an eerie castle that you have to explore). 3. The characters have a good chemistry. Even though the main character doesn't talk, her friend still communicates with her and during their short time together, forms a love relationship that works. In the outside world, each character has their own abilities (The main character can play music to unlock doors and her friend can jump gaps) which helps develop their personalities. Cons: 1. The game is short (I finished it in 2 hours). 2. The two endings that aren't the "good" ending seem pointless because there is no substance to them (they just have the respective character walk off the screen with "ending 2 or 3" flashing). 3. The game is a little easy. I enjoyed it and I'd recommend it for people who like RPGs.. Much Loved The Battle System. The Innate abilities can Power Up the Other Spells. With this Battle System, it can be Better if This game have more Character.. A short but fun RPG. The graphics are colourful, the music is nice! You have two main characters and the girl is silent. She gives enough expression to still make the conversations interactive. A lot of the background story is unfolded by finding notes around the castle. The battle system is very neat. You have to use the characters together. One to power up and the other to use a spell. Combining different of their abilities causes unique effects. So you have to strategize wisely. A very interesting game so definitely recommended!. This game was short but extremely enjoyable. The storyline was very compelling but, due to the length of the game, remained unresolved (which I found to be the only con to this game) The combat system was ingenious and I enjoyed figuring out the best way for the two protagonists to alter each other's spells to take out a difficult enemy. The artwork for said protagonists and the enemy monsters was unique and nice enough to make up for the rest of the RPG Maker graphics (the different setting designs for each mini-bosses' area of the castle helped too)Ultimately, because of how short it is, this game feels sort of like the demo to a longer game that I'd really, really love to play. Patch 1.1 - Controllers welcome!: I planned on adding a new area to the early game in this patch but I decided to split it up into a quality of life patch and a content patch. I felt it was more important to get usability and balance changes out quickly. Here's what's inside:Support for XInput controllers has been implemented. You can activate controller mode by pressing the A button. Keyboard/mouse control can be reactivated by pressing any key on the keyboard. The controller layout can be found in the Help section on the title screen. You can now switch between fullscreen and windowed mode from the options menu. You can adjust the window's size with the Page Up and Page Down keys.Outfit changes:Robe & Hat: now starts with Spell Power upgradeChainmail Bikini: ability cooldown lowered, spear no longer slows movementCyberpunk Gear: ability cooldown loweredFloor size in some areas has been adjusted slightly downwardsEnemy count has been lowered by roughly 3 per floor and the XP curve has been adjusted accordingly. Patch 1.01: Fixed a bug that was causing the area title text to display incorrectly on non-16:9 resolutionsA few stronger enemies have been modified to ignore the player until they are in sight and close enough, rather than obeying the distance-based rules that most enemies useReduced Alert level growth rate by 8%. Patch 1.54: Screen transitions have been added in a few places.Outfit changes:Feral Armor: ability now gives mana instead of health and is on a 30 second cooldown. I'd like Feral Armor to be a bit easier to survive with than the other outfits but between health and mana, mana is the more interactive resource to receive because it requires action on the player's part to make it useful, whereas health just passively lets you take another hit.Cyberpunk Gear: in typical fashion, enemies' bounding boxes are now outlined while wallhack is activeSpell changes:Crippling Shots is now more effective at all stages of the game. It was previously very weak until the player's attack leveled up.I think this patch puts Witchinour's balance in a pretty good place. As long as there are multiple unique playstyles I don't think there's anything wrong with some outfits being easier or harder to use than others. I used to mostly use Robe & Hat but Ranger's Garb became my favorite outfit pretty quickly after I added it and figured out how powerful it can be when coupled with Manabomb and the Spell Power and Ricochet upgrades. And once again, since almost every change or addition I've made to Witchinour has been influenced by player feedback, I'd like to thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me.. Patch 1.52: The level cap has been raised to 15, which you should reach around the end of the second loop. The XP curve before 10 is the same as before and the upgrade screen has been changed to account for the additional upgrade slots. The Trackery's color palette has been changedOutfit changes:Feral Armor: starting max HP and MP have been changed to 3. Ability cooldown is now 40 (was 30). Pirate Costume: hook's hitbox size has been increased. Remnants of Isolation: Adding Achievements and some fixes: Patch Note. Patch 1.55: The mousewheel can now be used to swap spells.Fixed a bug that was preventing the window title from changing when switching from fullscreen to windowed.
